Sunglasses : Originally introduced around the year 1752, by an eyeglass designer known as James Ayscough -- He introduced his spectacles which consisted of double hinged glass pieces. The lenses that were on these sunglasses, consisted of tinted glass and also clear glass. Ayscough thought that clear glass produced a glare that could damage one eyes, and he suggested that one used blue and green glass on their sunglasses. Ayscough's glasses were the first pair of sunglasses like eyeglasses, but yet they were not made to shield ones eyes from the sun, they were made to correct someone who had bad vision.

Then in 1929, a man by the name of Sam Foster had sold his first pair of his sunglasses, which were called Foster Grants (Sunglasses), in the Woolworth on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. 	Foster Grants was one of the first commercial sunglasses in the world. It is still known for its up to date style, comfort, reliability and low-cost. In the 1930's Sunglasses finally started hitting the mainsteam and getting very popular. A man by the name of Edwin H. Land, Invented a filter made out of a cellophane like material, that would actually polarize the sun light. This was the first filter that was able to polarize light. This polarizing celluloid became one of the most critical element in making sunglasses and making sunglass lenses. The effect of this is a reduction in light glare. In 1932 he founded a lab in boston, to further he research and advancement on sunglasses. In 1937 he started to use these filters on Polaroid sunglasses, and also glare-free automobile headlights, and many other optical devices. Land is now best known for his invention of insntant photography.

Without these men in history, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie would not have on their oversized white sunglasses on during the summer, and fashion would be very different. Not only that, but everyone would be a lot less happy while at the beach enjoying the day.
