Boots : Throughout the history of the human race, what starts as a prictical application to help man in one region of the world becomes a trendy fashion in another region of the world. The first pair of boots known to man were found as an impression in clay, origininating in the ancient region of Syria. Boots have also been found in cave paintings that are dated back to the years 12,000 and 14,000 B.C. These paitings were found in spain, and show a woman in boots of fur and a man in boots of skin. Boots have always been a practical item of clothing that were worn fashionably by all but the lower class. Before and sixteenth century, and up until World War 1, a fine pair of imported boots were important indicators of a persons social status. Over the decades, their style became less dazzling and glitzy, but their importance remained high. In the mid 16th century, boots that were worn by the gentlemen class, were decorated in a very extravagant design. More practical forms of boots started being developed, and boots were being devloped for specific activies in mind, such as snow boots, and horse riding boots. By the early nineteenth century boots have become everyday wear for fashionable men and women. Many styles of boots are in place now, designer boots and thigh high boots and other fashionable boots for women. Before we get ahead of ourself lets have a closer look at the boots begining.

The Mesopotamians were an early river civilization, in the very start of life, man had to be close to water in order for their community to survive. These Mesopotamians were the earliest people to wear boots. These boots that were worn by the Mesopotamians were manufactured out of kid leather, and and had laces that could be tied in a bow to secure the boots onto your foot. The picture you see to the right is what they would look like, the insides would normally be lined with soft furry animal skin such as fox. These boots were made only for practical use, yet some believe that Ugg Boots were originally designed to look similar to these, the mesopotamians boots. Boots back then were not believed to be fashion related, and only used for the princablity aspects. The first decorations on boots known of were of young greek boys in around 5 BC who would have white boots made out of a stretchy material pulled up to about their calf, with overturned green and red tabs for decoration. The toe of the boot was also usually highly decorated.

The Etruscans also were known to wear boots, they were very skillful tanners, and made their boots strictly from animal hide. A common characteristic that was throughout their boots was a curved upward toe design, some believed this was caused by how the boots were laced. Boots can be traced back to before 700 BC in their culture.
